Micael Rinat
Micael Rinat is a Marble Sculptor, Michael was born in 1952, Odessa, Ukraine
He spent his childhood in the Crimea, finishing high school in Sebastopol.
His first attempts to draw and paint on the Black Sea rocks belong to this
period.
In 1969 he entered the University of Riga, to study foreign languages. At the same time
he was taking drawing courses at the Academy of Fine Arts in Riga, where for the first time
he became interested in sculpture.
In 1979 he emigrated to Israel, serving in the IDF and teaching. After a while he came to an
understanding to quit painting for good and take up sculpture. Based on his enthusiasm with
The Old Testament (The Tanach) he began to develop his unique figurative style of bas-reliefs,
each of them telling a Tanach story as the sculptor saw and felt it.
He had no doubts about choosing the material – it had to be stone, an epic tale of the Jewish
people in marble ! Some of The Tanach scenes which Michael Rinat created on marble plates
appear in stone for the first time in the history of art.
The artist lives and works in the city of Modiin is Israel.
